With his dark, almost mask-like face and untamed appearance, he has the character of a mythical wild man, water spirit or creature of folklore rather than an ordinary hunter. Beautifully hand painted with vibrant color.
A fascinating and highly unusual 19th-century figural enamel button with plenty of mystery. If anyone has any answers, I would love to hear them! I have one of these in my collection and it has been a long time favorite. I was shocked to find another recently, only the second other I have seen. I could not love this unique button more than I already do.
